Anonymous Blog Commenting
Everyday I wrestle with comment moderation here at Search Marketing Gurus. The feedback and conversations can be fun, worthwhile, entertaining and educational. There are also comments that come through that are obvious attempts to sell products, people or ideas - which by the way, never make it to SMG's posts.
Then there are comments like the one I've been debating on which is signed by "Anonymous". While the content of the comment has great merit and demonstrates a clear point, that seems to be negated by the person's ability to give it credibility by "owning" it. While we can be anonymous on the web by different handles, screen names and hiding ip addresses, it just really demonstrates a lack of repsonsibility when you are contributing to a conversation with the blatant "Anonymous" handle.
I'm going to allow the comment to come through, however going forward, I'm less likely to do that, as I tend to feel, if you have a point - "own it', don't wuss out by being "anonymous'. Perhaps that's a hard line view, but my personal experience is that too much drama gets generated when people don't take ownership of their thoughts and actions, and SMG really isn't the place for it.
In the near future, I'll be posting a comment and trackback policy so that should help define what gets through the filtering process and what doesn't.
