You also want to add a few links on a related website so the spiders find your site ASAP.

It seems to me that using keywords in your image is not useful indeed. But keywords in the alt description seem good for SEO...

Do you see some benefit to the search engines in using a html sitemap over a xml based one? For visitors, sure, but if its just for search engines...well, a lot of sitemap generators default to xml.
