April Fool's Day 2007 and Search Engines

By Li Evans

I look forward to this day every year, I'm sad though because April Fool's day falls on a Sunday this year and all who can be subjected to my pranks are my sister, brother-in-law, niece and nephew.  Ok, ok ... I did ping Deb Mastaler and told her I met a really hot guy in Atlantic City last night and got married, and we were heading out tomorrow for the honeymoon.... just joking of course!  I think I shocked her though, she still hasn't pinged me back!

The search engines, particularly Google are having a blast with the day.  I woke up this morning and hit Google first.  But before I get to Google, take a look at Dogpile's cute logo today.

Now take a look at what Google's offering!  TiSP is a new free broadband service!  Take a look below at the details.

And although I couldn't find (granted I didn't look to deeply) any "pranks" by Yahoo!, they are promoting the day on their site and with Sierra Mist.

Hope you had a fun April Fool's day, and to my coworkers at Commerce360 - watch out next year, April Fool's day is on a weekday! :)

Search Engines & Social Media Celebrate St. Patrick's Day

By Li Evans

St. Patrick Day Doodles Galore!

"Good Luck Ta Ya, Laddy", will probably be heard more than once today.  There will be an over abundance of green worn as well, and plenty of green beer and Irish food on hand for celebrations across Ireland, the UK and the US today.  St. Patrick's day is one of those holidays that just tends to pull you in for the fun, even if you aren't Irish.

The search engines and social media sites have decided to join in the fun as well, offering their own form of celebration by incoroporating St. Patrick's Day themes into their logos again this year.  The only search engine that doesn't is Live Search/MSN Search and Reddit seems to be the only social media site getting into the spirit of the day.

Dave Pasternack - The Frog Prince of Did-It

By Li Evans

Davepasternackthebaker Please Note:  If you are looking for Dave Pasternack the famous Chef, please visit his restaurant's site: ESCA (The Southern Italian Seafood Restaurant)

Threadwatch is pretty fed up with Dave Pasternack (the guy who is from Did-It, not the chef), so much so they've announced a contest to see who can rank the highest for the term "Dave Pasternack".  I think we are all sick of Dave Pasternack by now, but he's not taking the hint, maybe this contest  will give him a clue.

I have to say, after David Wallace emailed me earlier today, I just groaned seeing that this guy is yet again yammering about the same old crap.  David's actually got a great post about Dave Pasternack's "Bakery Ramblings"

Baking a cake, *shakes his head*, wow, I wonder how long he had to sit around to come up with that one?

Normally, I'm not one for using a blog to criticize one individual, but geesh, doesn't Dave Pasternack know when to give up?  We all know, as David Wallace pointed out, it won't be long util Kevin Lee will be trying to sweep up the floury mess from yet another failed baking failed publicity stunt experiment.

Look, will someone please tell Dave Pasternack, to *pretty please* just go back to your PPC world.  We heard you the first time, the second time, the third time...... we're tired of hearing you beat this horse to death.  Go pick on Digg, or the entire Social Media industry and tell us the sky is falling there, maybe someone will care, or listen ..... but then again, maybe not.

Help Identify the Bill Gates Look-a-Like

By Li Evans

My pal Andy Steggles, from SitePRTracker, has asked for a little help.  While out at Chicago SES at the Yahoo! party, he captured some pretty funny video of this guy (the Bill Gate "Look-a-Like") dancing on stage with the band.  At one point the dude strips off his shirt and even throws it out into the crowd.  My guess is that, that was the side affect of one too many Yahoo-tinis!

If you know who the guy is running around the stage with his shirt off, please leave a comment below, Andy will be checking for any guesses!

SEO Trumps - Friday Fun!

By Li Evans

Something fun!  Something that doesn't involve rants, drama or controversy!  The folks over at Grey Hat News, bring us a bit of Friday Fun with SEO Trumps.  Its a fun little site I found really early this morning and was playing around with.  Just take a look at who I found in the Deck, and yes, I couldn't resist making my own card.  I just hope that flock of pissed off monkeys doesn't attack!

Five Things You Don't Know About Liana "Li" Evans

By Li Evans

So Ms. Lisa over at Bruce Clay tagged me (updated: cctech from Technology, SEO & Web Design tagged me too) for this 5 Things Blog Tag Tree Meme.  I guess I'll have to oblige, although I'm not so sure ya'll care too much about me, and would much rather the stories I dig up. :)

Anyway.... here's some things you didn't know about me.
Appleii 1.  I'm a geek girl, been programming since I was in 6th grade back when our elementary school got a few computers (Tandy TRS 80, Commodore 64 and Apple IIe *yes, I know it dates me!*).
2.  I'm so much of a geek girl, I named my dog after the the tech book publisher with all the animals on the covers "O'Reilly", I lopped off the "O" ... my rescue greyhound's name is Reilly.  However, I'm also a huge Buffy & Angel fan, and when I named him Reilly, people thought I named him after the character on that show.
3.  I've made it a goal this coming year to run a 5k race with my sister.  This is quite a feat for me, a year ago I looked like this, now, I look like this (and still working on loosing).
4.  When I was a child/teen I had 6 broken arms - 3 on the left, 3 on the right. Started in kindergarden until I was a senior in high school.  As a result my left arm is slightly shorter than my right.
5.  I collect anything to do with pirates, I have for nearly 15 years now.  I use to roleplay online (and sometimes still do)  as a pirate - Captain Treasure MacDugan.  My license plate even says "TREASUR".

OK now to tag 5 others:  David Wallace,Eric Enge, Debra Mastaler, Joe Dolson and since no one tagged him yet - Danny Sullivan, however if I missed that someone has, I'll tag my fellow Eagles fan AussieWebmaster :)

Niel Patel - The Princess of SMO

By Li Evans

How many of you know who Neil Patel is?  I had heard of Neil before, but hadn't had the opportunity to meet him.  I met his partner "in crime" Cameron Olthuis out in San Jose (i referred to him as "the hot guy" I took pictures of in San Jose), but not Neil.

Well Chicago was different, right out of the gate the first night, I got to meet Neil.  What a terrific guy.  He's a wizard at Social Media Optimization and is Cameron's LinkBaiting/Buzzing counterpart at ProNet Advertising.  Both were speakers at SES - Neil's presentation was just awesome.

Also if you didn't know Neil and Cameron are offering to "Pimp Your Links", they are going to choose a site a week to help out with viral, buzz and smo marketing ideas.

Lastly though, I really wanted to join in the fun of introducing you to Princess = Neil Patel.  I think the light up wand really makes his eyes twinkle!  Just ask Kim, Andy, Debra & Todd, they all agree!  I'm just glad that Neil had fun at SES, it was great to finally meet him.

SEO FanGuy Is Quite Sneaky!

By Li Evans

Seofanguy If you haven't seen it, you should.  There's an SEO Fan Guy out there now, posting on all of us SEO Gals in the industry!  Apparently this blog was launched in stealth mode while we were all out in Chicago.  I have to say, I really enjoy blogs like SEO Fan Girl and SEO Fan Guy, they deliver the right about of laughter to my days when I need it most.

I got the pleasure of meeting SEO Fan Girl while out in Chicago.  She's such a sweetheart!  She even guided us poor coatless souls (that'd be EvilGreenMonkey and I) and the rest of the crew through Chicago's Chinatown to the Pizzeria Due.  By meeting SEO Fan Girl, it also gave Rebecca Kelley, Lisa Barone and I the chance to once and for all prove we were not SEO Fan Girl. :)

I guess this is as good of a time as any to announce a new series I'm going to be starting - Women of Search Marketing Wednesdays.  Each Wednesday for the next few weeks I'm going to feature two women in the industry - one you'll likely know, the other might be new to most of the audience.  So, keep your eyes here on Wednesday and meet our first two ladies!
